Exploring and questionning power relations

This second session of the Decentralisation thread has been a good opportunity for us to go deeper in decentralisation and power relations.

We’ve been discussing this topic through videos. Juanma and Paul shew us 6 different videos, including videos games screenshots, movie extract… We then got a chance in small groups to discuss all kind of power relationship that exist. This has been also a good time to relate it to our JB and their structures to see what is working well according to each country and what can be improved.

The second part made us reflect about the decision making within our JB structure and how much was this process centralisazed. We then shared views wether it was good or bad to decentralise everything. People felt glad about doing this and revise all the processes existing in their countries.

Movie night

This night was a “movie night”.

Comfortably installed on pillows in the IJBC room and fed with the pop corn machine, we have been able to watch “Children of men”. This Movie wasn’t a random movie but it dealt with several subjects such as kids, refugees and so on.

The movie has been chosen on purpose and not randomly, for us to be able to discuss about those topics afterwards during “Discussion groups” with guest speakers.

We’re looking forward to attending this session that is most likely to be LEGEN…… DARY !

Challenging the rest of the organisation

Okay guys, so we just had a session about what we want to change in IJB, and what our little group wanted to change is how much we challenge the rest of the organisation. So we have all these random thoughts about how to challenge the organisation and I really feel like sharing them with you.

So here is what we want to change:

• are we the only ones who should have the identity theme? Does all of CISV have a theme? If no, why not?
• why is everything in the rest of CISV so damn bureaucratic – it is a slow process and kills creativity
• why are we the only ones doing stuff outside the ordinary – outside the defined programs
• we have many intelligent documents, why aren’t the rest of CISV using them?

So how do we change it?

• we have to better examples and be better at showing off. Let’s not be afraid of leading just because we are younger.
• the connect team should not only promote our documents within JB but to the whole organisation. And while we are at it – what is the connect team for the whole organisation? Do we have one? Can they learn from our sucessful connect team?
• making AIM less about the planary and more about creativity – why don’t planary sit down and do what we just did?
• spending less time getting approval and using more time challenging the status quo.

These are just thoughts and what to do with thoughts? Share them.

I’ve got the power!

This day has been a witness of  2 “first times”. This second first time was the first session of the thread about Decentralisation.

But what is that ? Decentralisation, in the way we are working with it right now, consist in having more people involved in the decision making process. This is a very short description of what decentralisation is. You are more than welcome to check out what it is and learn more about it.

 

Zoom out or how to get a general feeling of IJBC

This first “zoom out” session has been the opportunity for us to break down into small groups in order to discuss about our feelings for the begining of IJBC.

The general feeling is excellent, everybody feels relax, usefull and in the mood to learn. This has to be balanced unfortunately by some imperfections during a few sessions and sometimes blurry conclusion.

But the spirit is here, and everyone is looking forward to continue to work and contribute as much as possible.

We’ve been told that the IJB Committee was doing some kick ass work. We thank everyone for that and we are happy that this new planning system involving more people than the IJRs and candidates suits most of us.

Let’s keep on benefiting from it and enjoying our time here.

Theme for 2010 is about to be released!

This sessions introduces the thread about Theme for 2010!

It has been an AMAZING excitement thanks to the positive energy released and transmitted by our facilitators. Smile on and more energy than ever, videos of Louise and her non-stop laugh might pop up here.

This sessions has been a good opportunity for us to think about what a theme is, what are the advantages of having one. We also had to come up with activities in short time which enables us now to have those brand new energizers about Swine Flu and people with cool glasses getting into a truck to perform during this IJBC. Check also the twitter account that will keep you updated about the round of names record. But how does it go ou might wonder ! Basic : everybody stands in a circle and we have to go all the way around, everyone saying his / her name after the others.

We’ll illustrate that with a video soon. Keep on reading friends!

 

GTS #2

This session keeps the spirit of the whole GTS thread rolling.

Mopre reflexion about trainings and a nice talk show as opener between Regional Meetings (featuring ARMM with mateo, JASPARC with Angela and EJBM with louise) and JB Developement WS (featuring BT for JB South, Willy for the Andinos and Rou for the Arabian Nights).

Vidéos are about to come for those talks.

Unfortunately, it turned out that this session has been confusing for people because of reflexion time shortage and kind of a small mess when breaking down into smaller parallel sessions about Creativity in Planning, ASK model, Facilitation and JB Goals indicators.

But so far so good, we keep on thinking and brainstorming to have new ideas and move our wonderful IJB one step forward, at least!

 

LMOs excitement

This morning has been the first opportunity to think about how we work with LMOs and how can we benefit from what they know and offer them what we know. The LMO thread started thanks to Alex and Camilla’s enthusiasm leading everyone to concrete reflection and project ideas.

10 worldwide LMOs have been picked and people spread into groups of interest in order to see how partnerships could be created between those LMOs and IJB & CISV.

It seems that everyone found a spot and is looking forward to working with the organisation they are interested in. The enthusiasm has been transmitted. Good start guys!
